If a new wage contract isn’t reached by the end of July, Atlantic City Casino workers are ready to walk.

The Unite Here Local 54 union has announced that nearly 96% of the union’s members are in favor of the authorized strike.

Because of the Covid pandemic and the negative effect it had on Atlantic City Casinos, workers are faced with serious financial issues. The Unite Here Local 54 union is seeking substantial wage increases to help workers with the issues.

Workers from the Borgata, Caesars, Harrah’s, and Tropicana plan to walk out if an agreement cannot be reached.

Rodney Mills, a housekeeper at Tropicana, is behind the union and said he is ready to walk out.

“Things are really hard right now,” Mills said. “We need a livable wage to survive.”

The president of The Unite Here Local 54, Bob McDevitt, said to a room full of union members - “The industry better not take this lightly. This is a no (B.S.) thing.”

It’s been almost three weeks since the contract has expired, but neither side has been able to reach an agreement. There is no timetable on when the strike would start.
