The state of New Jersey set a new monthly record for all states with $748.6 million in September sports betting wagers.

September Record: The total is up 68% year over year and passes the $668 million total from August, which was a monthly record at the time.

Through the first nine months of the year, New Jersey has taken in $3.3 billion in sports wagers, up from $2.96 billion in the same time period last year.

Online sports betting continued to dominate the market with 90.7% of all wagers placed. Retail betting was $69.8 million in September, up from $66 million in August.

Online casino and poker wagering totaled $87.6 million for September, a 113% year-over-year increase.

Golden Nugget online casino is still the operator the rest of the field is chasing. Golden Nugget, as a license holder, earned $26 million for September, and it is nearly $6 million more than its closest competitor.

While the number is strong, it’s down from the previous two months. July’s $31.4 million is the current record. August revenue came in at $27.7 million.

The other brands operating under the license are:

  • SugarHouse online casino

  • Betfair NJ online casino

  • BetAmerica Casino

However, Golden Nugget’s year-over-year performance from September 2019, which is up 66.2%, is the number that stands out. This is a big reason why GoldenNugget AC is one of the few casinos to see a positive jump in total gaming revenue.
